Old Cypress of Abarkouh has spread its foliage in a blue sky in such a way that has stained a vast area of the sky with its green color. Its ever green nature reminds us of Zoroastrianism and the symbol of cypress in the culture of ancient Iran. A cypress , tall and steady, reflects Iran's glory and greatness to the world.
This stout tree is known as a 4000-year-old cypress and green jewel. Although it has been one of the oldest creature on Earth, still vibrant and lively, it continues his life vigorously. Moreover, age of this old cypress has attracted particular attention to this tree. Old Cypress is geographically located on the southwest of Abarkuh , and based on a panel installed at the visiting site, its height, trunk diameter, and crown diameter are estimated at 25 meters, 5 meters and 14 meters, respectively.
Cypress Status in Iranian Culture
As mentioned before, the cypress is well situated in the Iranian culture. In Iranian old myths, as well as referring to planting this tree by the son of Noah (AS), it is also referred to Zoroaster. In general, the cypress symbol in the Iranian culture is unique and special and can be observed in designs of the Persepolis, Termeh fabrics of Yazd . Above all, the cypress is known as the national tree of Iran which symbolizes Persia's perseverance and pride.
