Natural Science Museum of Yazd

Museums in the world are among the best places to keep and protect legacy and human history from natural damage. There are more than 20 active museums in Yazd province, half of which are under the supervision of governmental agencies and the rest is managed by the private and participatory sector of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Yazd.

History of Yazd Natural Science Museum

Education Department of Yazd founded the Natural Science Museum in 1991 at Iranshahr School in Yazd. This museum came into operation under the supervision of the faculty and effort of a group of academics. The area of Natural Sciences Museum is about 3500 square meters.
The Museum of Natural Sciences is the first museum related to the Education Department of Yazd province. The purpose of its establishment was to form and constitute the various sectors such as natural sciences, biology, astronomy and physics, the display of interesting physical phenomena, the collection of organisms and different taxidermy animals.

The Field of Activity of Yazd Natural Science Museum

Yazd Natural Science Museum has four main halls and one main section that includes geology, biology, physics and astronomy sections. This section has some subsections such as natural science and history in the geology section, botany (250 species of indigenous and desert plants) and zoology (150 samples of insects, birds and reptiles) and anatomy (various stages of embryo formation) in the biology section, observatory and planetarium in the astronomy section, different models of working with mathematics and computer in the physics and mathematics section, and a taxidermy workshop that all are located in a 1000-meter hall.
In this museum, in addition to diverse and educational sections, there are also certain objects that include fossils, rare animals and the body of a woman that dates back to 800 years ago.

Parts of Natural Science Museum of Yazd

At the entrance to the Natural Science Museum, you first enter the Birds’ Hall, after which you will see a beautiful forest with natural taxidermy animals that create a special sense. Having passed through this almost natural forest, you will enter the mirror area. At the end of the hall, there is a plants’ hall where you can learn about various plants. In the end, many species of animals, mammals, snakes and fishes are apparent as if they are alive and continue to live in this museum.
It should be noted that Yazd Museum of Natural Sciences is one of the few unique Iranian museums that provides educational facilities, technologies with the aim of improving the knowledge of researchers and scientists. Iranshahr High School of Yazd

Iranshahr School is the first public school in Yazd which was established between 1927 and 1928 during the Qajar period. The architect of the Iranshahr School is a French architect named Andre Godard who has implemented the architecture of this school with the design of the ovoid arches of the Sassanian period and grooved arches of the Safavid era.
The architecture of this school is designed in accordance with the warm and dry climate of Yazd. The arched ceilings, the roofed porches of the entrance of the courtyards and brick flooring demonstrated this construction. At the time of the construction of the Iranshahr School, Yazd city did not have plumbing system, but this high school has had bathrooms, faucets and even water taps connected to the water storage on the second floor which was fed by the Chehel Gaz Well using a wooden windlass.  
In 1996, Iranshahr School of Yazd was registered in Iran National Monuments List.
