History of Fateh-ha House of Yazd

Haj Muhammad Sadeq Fateh’s House is comprised of two houses. Fateh-ha House , in which its founder, Haj Mohammad Taqi Arab, and two generations of his offspring lived, is 150 years old. The house which was not really big was inherited to Haj Mohammad Sadeq Fateh. Then 50 years later, Sadeq’s brother, Haj Abdul Wahab Fateh , built a larger house next to the first house, and the Fateh-ha House was formed.

Architecture of Fateh-ha House

Courtyard construction, garden construction, the arrangement of the trees, and high badgirs on the main iwan of the small yard are some of the main features making the Fateh-ha House architecture unique.
Fateh-ha House has two different courtyards and each yard is enclosed with different spaces, the yard of the house has two floors and the yard of the bigger house has one floor. The extent of the larger courtyard has made it more delicate with more light and airy ambience.
The presence of iwans in the middle of the opposite sides in Fateh-ha House, is the unique feature of the façade of the two courtyards. Although the overall composition of the façades of the two courtyards is similar, the inner elements are different.
Another noteworthy point is the design of the porch and the panjdari (five-door room) which are located between the two yards next to each other. At first glimpse at this combination, the iwan belongs to the big courtyard and panjdari to the small courtyard, but at a deeper look, the two elements are a single space between the two courtyards, taking advantage of both views.

A Brief Look at the Owner’s Life

Along with the information about the parts of house, the personal life of Sadeq Fateh deserves some words, too. Although little information is available about his childhood, it’s claimed that he was 15 when he started trading.
Haj Mohammad Sadeq Fateh, who changed his surname from Arab to Fateh, was the son-in-law of the great Haj Ghazanfar , a Yazdi merchant who was engaged in trading fabrics in Tehran. Some people say that Fateh had worked for him for a while, and this made them so intimate that he married his daughter to Sadeq.
