Malek-o Tojjar Hotel, the First Adobe Hotel in Iran

One of the four Mehr Chain Hotels, which was opened as the first mudbrick Qajar Hotel in Iran. This hotel which originally was an antique mansion, belonged to a well-known merchant named Haj Ali Asker Shirazi. He who made business successes in Qajar Era received the nickname Malek-o Tojjar by Nasir al-din Shah the current king of that time.
This house was used by Malek-o Tojjar’s descendants up to fourth generations, then it converted into a traditional hotel in 1997.
The antique Malek-o Tojjar Hotel has a magnificent courtyard which looks spectacular with traditional adobe architecture, two-story wooden windows, along with golden light emitted from the sky.
The rooms around the courtyard are divided to Winter, Summer and Spring rooms depending to which side they lie. The doors are painted in brown. There is a large hall with strong wooden pillars. Combination of all these things gives the hotel glory and impressiveness. To make the house cool and pleasant, there are three badgirs on the roof and a Sardab in the basement.
The 4-star antique Malak-o Tojjar Hotel has 23 different rooms, 55 beds in total. The rooms depending on the number of the doors which open to front yard are called three-door (sedari) or Five-door (pandari) rooms. Each room has its own characteristics and usage. The walls and ceilings of most of the rooms are decorated with gold-plated paintings by some Shirazi artists and are in perfect harmony with the style of the Narenjestan e Ghavam. The hotel has also a mirror room. There is a narration that says the art works in Malek-o Tojjar hotel lasted for ten years.
